QGIS 3.0 Released

The much heralded release of QGIS 3.0 happened today (see the release notice from the QGIS blog).  Each release of QGIS is named after a city and for 3.0 the name is Girona (a city in Spain which hosted the 15th QGIS developer meeting).  For those anxious to download and try out this major release of the open source GIS software from qgis.org, the installers are in the process of being prepared.

To track the release of the packages, follow the official @qgis Twitter account:

In the meantime, you can get a feel for what 3.0 has to offer by visiting Anita Graser’s blog where she has posted a Resources for QGIS 3.0 page with links and videos where you can learn about the new features.  Kurt Menke has posted a fairly comprehensive article about his favorite features of QGIS 3.0 complete with screenshots and animated GIFs.
