Online Mapping Sued

mappingWhat do Expedia, Google, Microsoft, the Washington Post, Ticketmaster, Travelocity, Tripadvisor, Yahoo, Yellow Pages, Yelp, and Zagat Survey have in common?  They are all being sued by Webmap Technologies LLC for infringement of patent 6,772,142 called Method and Apparatus for Collecting and Expressing Geographically Referenced Data.

In other realms of the litigation world, AT&T is suing Verizon over their “There’s a Map For That” commercials. Engadget (via APB) has a detailed post about the lawsuit with the offending commercial at the end.  Apparently the threat of being sued hasn’t stopped Verizon from creating a slew of Christmas ads building off the theme.
