The Bureau of Transportation Statistics recently released the 2014 National Transportation Atlas Database.

From the BTS

The DVD is a set of nationwide geographic databases of transportation facilities, transportation networks, and associated infrastructure. These datasets include spatial information for transportation modal networks and intermodal terminals, as well as the related attribute information for these features. Metadata documentation, as prescribed by the Federal Geographic Data Committee, is also provided for each database. The data on this DVD support research, analysis, and decisionmaking across all modes of transportation. They are most useful at the national level, but have major applications at regional, state, and local scales throughout the transportation community.

The Atlas provides such transportation related datasets as airport and Amtrak station locations, border crossing ports, bridges, crash data, and railroad crossings.  The collection also includes administrative datasets such a national park boundaries and county boundaries.

Users can also download individual GIS datasets by browsing through the datasets which are organized by data type: point, line, and polygon.  All data is provided in shapefile format.Detail about all of the GIS data available through the National Transportation Atlas Database is available in the liner notes.
