September represents a month of map and GIS related conferences in the United Kingdom. Nicknamed “Maptember”, the three biggest events are:
State of the Map 2013 taking place in Birmingham from September 6 through 8. This event is the global OpenStreetMap convention for anybody who contributes or uses OpenStreetMap data. The theme of this year’s conference is “Change”. Since the first State of the Map in 2007, the number of registered users has jumped from 10,000 to 1.1 million.
The Association for Geographic Information (AGI) will also host its annual conference from September 16 to 18 in Nottingham with the theme “Open for Business.”
FOSS4G will hold its global conference on open source geospatial software from September 17 to 21 also in Nottingham.
Other notable map and GIS related events being held during Maptember include the Society of Cartographers Conference 2013 (September 2-4 in Stoke-on-Trent), the Conference on Spatial Information Theory 2013 (September 3-5 in Scarborough), and the British Cartographic Society Mapping 2013 Symposium (September 3 -5 in Leicestershire).
