After announcing last week that a new Google Maps app was available for Android smartphones and tablets, Google announced late yesterday that a native app for the iPad is now available for Google Maps.  The app has been optimized for the iPad and includes access to Street View.  The new release also includes an updated app for the iPhone.

Expanded features include:

  • Enhanced naviation: ” use Google Maps on your iPhone to get live incident reports on road closures, construction, accidents, and more”.
  • Turn-by-turn voice directions for biking navigation.  The new update contains 330,000 miles of trails, paths, and bike lanes information.
  • Search box tips.  If you just want to explore, tap the search box and the app will provide information cards about local places of interest.
  • Reviews both from users and Zagat are now integrated with Google Maps as was shown in the Google Maps redesign promos.  Also integrated are offers from local businesses.

The new Google Maps App for iOS devices is available for downloading from the iTunes App Store.
