You can now access shorter URLs when linking to a Google Maps view.  Click on the green beaker at the upper right hand corner and enable the “Short URL” option. (Via Google Maps Mania and The Map Room)

The Lat Long Blog announced the release of oblique imagery for select cities around the world.  For a map showing the current availability of oblique imagery visit 45° Imagery on Google Maps.  To access the imagery, zoom in to an available area in satellite imagery mode and select the 45° options from the drop down “Sat” menu.

Ogle Earth has a perspective on the change by Google from automatically redirecting google.cn to google.com.hk with the post entitled “Stop censoring Google Maps in China – kill ditu.google.cn“.  As Google reported on July 9th, the Chinese government approved the renewal of its Internet Content Provider License (ICP) which will allowed the continued operation of google.cn.
