Google Maps Redesign

Ad:

Googles Maps is preparing to debut its newly revamped Google Maps.  Terming it “smart recommendations” the new functionality of Google Maps is intended to be more interactive and custom tailored to the specific user.  The more you use the map to search for locations, favorite items by starring them, and write location reviews, the more unique the map becomes.  Clicking a specific business or feature will result in the map features adjusting to show roads and locations related to that place.

Trip planning now includes a timeline that shows the number of transfers and travel times across the different modes of transportation.  This allows the user to compare traveling by foot, public transportation, car, or bicycle.

The search bar for locations now also provides more direct access to directions and streetview along with a pop-up info card for that location.  Google has also added an imagery carousel to the bottom of the map so users can scroll through the available imagery found in streetview, business photos, and photo tours. Also available is Earth view which renders cities, mountains, and famous landmarks into 3D within Google Maps.

Previewing the new Google Maps is currently only available by invite at the moment.  You can request your invite via the Preview  page.
