Last summer, the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) announced plans to update the GIS Professional Certification process.  Starting February 1st, GISCI will accept public comments about their proposed changes:

Key among the proposed updates is the addition of a required examination. The Working Group that prepared the proposal recommends that the exam be based on the U.S. Department of Labor’s new Geospatial Technology Competency Model and related resources.

The review and comment period on the planned update is from February 1st through February 28th, 2011.  Changes on the requirements to obtain the GIS Professional Certification will be implemented starting in April of 2011.
