GeoConnectPeople, a social media site for those working in the geospatial technology field, was recently launched by the Brazilian GIS web site MundoGEO.   The aim of the site is to connect those in the geospatial field to each other so that common groups can be formed for the purpose of networking and debating GIS related topics.

Membership on the new site recently surpassed 1,000 with participants joining from around the world, most notably from various countries in Latin America, Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, the United States, Russia, Korea, and Angola.

The multi-lingual site hosts the beginnings of a forum, blogs, and event calendar.

Registration can be done directly on the site or through a Twitter, Facebook, Yahoo!, or Google account.
