Geo Quick Bits: Infamous Censuses, Norman B. Leventhal Map Center, Handbags for Haiti

| |

The Geographic Travels blog notes that the upcoming 2010 U.S. Census (despite the reservations of some) is a cake walk compared to some of the more infamous censuses in history. James Fee points out an online mapping effort relating to the 2010 Census called Census Hard to Count 2010.

Boston Public Library’s Norman B. Leventhal Map Center has a Flickr account which has scanned maps covering a diversity of areas and themes organized into sets such as the Maps of the American Revolution and World Maps (via The Map Room).

If you want to be trendy and help out the Haiti relief effort at the same time, pick up one of the handbags designed by Scarlett Johannson for Mango, a Spanish clothing designer. The handbag shows an antique map of Haiti and all profits will support Oxfam’s Haiti Earthquake Response Fund.
