Esri has entered the GIS MOOC arena. MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Course and are online instructor led courses offered for free. The first GIS MOOC offered by Esri is called Going Places with Spatial Analysis.
The course description from Esri:
This Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is for people who know something about data analysis and want to learn about the special capabilities of spatial data analysis. Spatial analysis focuses on location to gain a deeper understanding of data. Spatial analysis skills are in high demand by organizations around the world. You’ll get free access to the full analytical capabilities of ArcGIS Online, Esri’s cloud-based GIS platform. Previous experience with GIS software is helpful, but not necessary for tech-savvy problem solvers. Could you and your career go places with spatial analysis?
The start date for this GIS MOOC has yet to be announced. Visitors to the page can sign up to save a spot in the MOOC. The course, once active, will be six weeks long and involve 2-3 hours of coursework each week. The lesson plan will involved video lectures, quizzes, and case studies. Those completing the course will be eligible for a certificate and prizes.
