New Geospatial Certification Preparing for the ArcGIS Desktop Associate Exam

Esri is now offering sample questions for Esri’s ArcGIS Desktop Exams.  The sample questions are accessible from Esri’s Training page.

The sample questions mimic the multiple choice style of Esri’s technical exams although don’t expect to find any of the sample questions on the real exams.  The areas covered in the sample questions are the same areas covered on the exams.  Immediate feedback on the correct answer is offered after each sample question is answered.

The sample questions (35 for the ArcGIS Desktop Associate exam and 42 for the ArcGIS Desktop Professional exam) are aimed to provide users with a self-assessment tool for determining their preparedness for the exams.  Esri does caution, “Of course, they are not a comprehensive resource—the skills and knowledge gained through on-the-job experience are the best preparation for an exam.” (via All Points Blog)

GIS Book Pick

The Look of Maps: An Examination of Cartographic Design is a cartographic classic by Arthur H. Robinson originally published in 1952. The book was based on Robinson’s doctoral research “which investigated the relationship between science and art in cartography and the resultant refinement of graphic techniques in mapmaking to present dynamic geographic information.”
