Following the unrest in the Middle East via Tweets has been made possible by developer Virender Ajmani.  Tweets tagged with #bahrain, #egypt, #libya, and #iran are mapped out at intervals of 5 seconds on this Google Maps application (blog post from Ajmani here).  ~via Got Geoint?

Esri has published a social media map in partnership with Environment Canterbury showing geolocated Tweets, Ushaidi, Flickr, YouTube, and other shared content concerning the February 22, 2011 earthquake that hit near the city of Christchurch.  ~via GPS World

Paul Nicholls of the University of Canterbury in Christchurch has produced a Christchurch Quake Map visualizing the over 5,000 earthquakes that have struck in the region since September 4, 2010.   The site combines Google Maps with data from GeoNet to create the time lapsed display.
