Make Maps in Excel with the New MAPCITE Version

MAPCITE has released a new version of its popular Excel spreadsheet mapping tool.  The add-in allows users to visualize geographically Excel data containing location information such as addresses, ZIP codes, or city/state.  Users can easily create maps showing either plotted locations or a heat map within Excel and then share the map with others (read the previous article on GIS Lounge about MAPCITE for more detail). Version 1.2 has a major new feature which is the ability for users to share a spreadsheet with the map embedded in it.  This allows recipients who have the add-in installed to open up the shared spreadsheet with the map will automatically opened with the data displayed.

The latest version is fully optimized for Office 13 and therefore also works with Office 365.  Unlike Microsoft’s Power Map (previously known as GeoFlow) which is only compatible with the very latest versions of Office (13 and 365), MAPCITE’s add-in is also fully compatible with Office 2007 & 2010.

MAPCITE’s Excel add-in is offered with four different pricing options.  There is a free download option which has a data limit of 3,000 records and any outputted maps are watermarked.  There are two user versions.  The Excel Addin Lite ($29.99/year) removes the watermarking on the map outputs but has a limit of 300 records.  Excel Addin Pro ($99.99/year) removes both the watermark and data record restrictions.  This release also includes a fourth option for developers with Excel Addin DEV.
