Five states that have no Fortune 1000 companies headquartered are excluded from the listing: North Dakota, Wyoming, Vermont, West Virginia, Alaska. California and New York are the most populated states with 98 Fortune 1000 companies headquartered in those states. Montane, New Mexico, and Mississippi are the least populated with only one company with headquarters in each of those states.
