The unofficial Esri User Conference BackChannel is being run by DTSGIS.  Among the offerings is a schedule app that allows you to sync your conference schedule with your smartphone.  Participate in fun activities like the Photo Safari where points are offered for posting pictures of yourself taken with notable GIS (mostly Esri) people or well known Esri UC and San Diego places such as the Esri logo in the convention center.  Follow the social stream or track events through the Meetups page.

Gather points to try and take home a prize, 20 points are awarded just for registering.  Points can be collected for recruiting others to sign up, the Photo Safari, and rating Esri sessions.  Top prizes include iPads, iPod Touches and gift cards.

GIS Book Pick

The Look of Maps: An Examination of Cartographic Design is a cartographic classic by Arthur H. Robinson originally published in 1952. The book was based on Robinson’s doctoral research “which investigated the relationship between science and art in cartography and the resultant refinement of graphic techniques in mapmaking to present dynamic geographic information.”
